Our story and mission

The Dragonfly Lounge is Colchester’s new LGBTQ+ focussed venue, with a mission to create a safe, accessible and vibrant space for the community. We aim to nurture new, emerging and existing performance talent through our cabarets and residencies. We have created a varied programme of events to keep you entertained and hope you will find our space comfortable and welcoming.

The Dragonfly Lounge is a project that dates back to spring 2023, when Jo reached out to some local drag performers to discuss the idea of a new drag performance venue in the heart of Colchester. She met Dan, aka Tracey Paper and the dream was born! With the help of many wonderfully supportive local businesses, friends, colleagues and community members they began creating what would eventually be The Dragonfly Lounge!

Later in 2025 Dan and Jo plan to launch The Dragonfly School of Drag so watch this space if you want to give drag a go or refine your existing skills.

Our venue

The Drgaonfly Lounge is the perfect getaway for a fabulous evening of entertainment. We showcase the best of LGBTQ+ entertainment and welcome all types of performers to our stage.

The Dragonfly Lounge is available to hire for special occasions, private events and celebrations of all kinds. Our inclusive approach to our design means that we are able to welcome people from all bakgrounds.

We hold up to 200 guests, with different arrangements for every kind of event.

Our fully stocked bar offers the best variety of spirits, drinks and cocktails in Colchester!
